National Bank sponsors newly established library at Edgar T. Morris Primary School

    Basseterre, St. Kitts - The staff and students at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School yesterday were beaming with excitement as they officially opened the schools newly established Library, sponsored by the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Ltd. 

     

    The Bank has already assisted three primary schools, including Tyrell Williams Primary, Sandy Point Primary and Saddlers Primary investing almost $50,000 towards enhancing and improving their Library.   This year, the Bank will invest in another three primary school library projects.

     

    Mrs. Sheridan Hendrickson, Marketing and Public Relations Officer of National Bank, remarked that it was just two years ago that the Bank sought to identify and fund a programme that would enhance the educational experience of children at the primary level.  “After much research, we decided that a library improvement and expansion programme was timely and would benefit students as well as the teachers.” 

     

    Mrs. Joycelyn Pennyfeather, the Principal of the school thanked the Bank for its substantial contribution and invited all those present to witness the cutting of the ribbon and the unveiling of the beautiful new Library premises.   The Library was dedicated to Mrs. Mary Gilbert, a retired teacher and a pillar in the Tabernacle community.

     

    Also, present at the event to show their support for the school were Parents, Teachers, Peace Corps Volunteers, Students, and other Businesses all who gave of their time and resources to help make the dream of a fully functional, spacious, and inviting Library, a reality.  Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Patrick Welcome, in his remarks focused mainly on the critical role of reading in children’s development.   

    Mr. Osmond Petty, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education lauded the contribution of National Bank to the future of our Nation’s children, and then encouraged the students not only to read for research or homework, but to also read for fun and leisure.
