BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A female resident of St. Paul’s was recently found guilty on two counts of illegal drugs charges and was fined EC$3 000, while a Bird Rock resident, who was charged with the same offences, had his charges withdrawn.
According to a police communiqué, the female, Cassanya Lanns, had appeared before the Court, was found guilty and fined EC$1 000 for Possession of Cocaine and EC$2 000 for Possession of Cocaine With Intent To Supply.
She has three months to pay the first fine, but if in default will have to serve a six-month sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison. And on the second one, she has to pay that fine also within three months or serve 12 months in prison.
On Thursday, May 29, 2014, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Special Services Unit and the Drug Squad had teamed up with members of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department’s Enforcement Unit to simultaneously launch operations and execute search warrants on the Bird Rock premises of Patrick Weekes and two other individuals.
A communiqué, at that time, stated that during the operations a quantity of cocaine was discovered at Weekes’ residence and that Lanns, who was present during the time of the search, was taken along with Weekes and the cocaine into police custody.
Both of them were charged with Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Cocaine With Intent To Supply.
On the same day of their arrest, the duo was granted bail in the amount of $10 000 each with two sureties.
The police communiqué however informed that the charges against Weekes were withdrawn.
