New security agency conducts workshop for safer St. Kitts

SSS Managing Director Shawn Wigley

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE streets of St. Kitts are set to be safer and more secure with the commencement of a two-week security training course today (Apr. 6) at Project Strong Headquarters in Taylors Range.

The course is the brainchild of a newly-established private security agency called Supreme Security Services (SSS), which has offices on Wellington Road and in Antigua and Barbuda.

Some 25 persons with an interest in the security profession are expected to attend the course, which is being facilitated by former Warrant Officer Class One Lennox Hardy of the Guyana Defence Force in collaboration with SSS.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, SSS Managing Director Shawn Wigley revealed that persons who successfully complete the course and subsequent training would be offered employment by his company. He further stated that the initiative was the organisation’s way of ensuring that its staff was properly trained and instructed.

“Before we put people on the job, we want to ensure they’re trained properly. We don’t want to just put them on the job and then they’ll be lost. With this course, persons will be equipped with the knowledge and information as to how a security officer should perform,” said Wigley.

The Director also disclosed that some of the topics that would be covered over the two-week period include First Aid Techniques, Guard Duties, Physical Training and Self Defence.

“We want to take security operations to a level they’ve never been to before; one that is exactingly consistent with international standards. Providing security is a vital profession of the utmost importance because it is only when a nation is secure, it can truly develop,” Wigley asserted.

Economist and Director of Consumer Affairs Howard Richardson concurred with Wigley’s assertion. He noted that with the rising incidences of crime, a career in the private security profession is a viable option.

“Because private businesses are often targeted by criminals, they will require protection. And many times the police are unable to provide this protection, so these businesses will have to rely on private security agencies to safeguard their property,” said Richardson.
