BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -YOUNG St. Kitts and Nevis sprinter Brijesh Lawrence captured the 100 metres title at the Arima Invitational Games yesterday in Trinidad and Tobago.
According to a report in the Trinidad and Tobago Express, Lawrence won the race in a time of 10.20 seconds ahead of Bajan Ramon Gittens and Trinidadian Darrell Brown before lack of lights brought the games to a premature end at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
The Trinidadian paper also reported that halfway through the race, Lawrence and Gittens were neck and neck but it was the Kittitian who had the edge to take gold and the Trinidadian settling for silver.
Brown was said to be in contention as well but failed in the end to challenge the two and finished in the bronze medal position.
Also this weekend, sprint icon Kim Collins had to settle for bronze in Manchester as he participated in the Great City Games. Collins ran a time of 10.33 seconds to finish third behind winner Michael Rogers of the USA and Great Britain’s Richard Kilty.
