Movado whets appetites ahead of ‘Burlesques’ show

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH appetites sufficiently whetted and theme revealed, sponsors, models and patrons are gearing up for this year’s Movado Modelling Agency’s fashion show, ‘Burlesques’, which is scheduled for June 21.

Over the years the agency has developed a reputation for producing quality shows that often pair modelling with dancing as a creative way of showcasing the various clothing pieces.

Late last week, Movado, which was founded by Choreographer Jason Amory, held a teaser event at Mojitos Cuban Lounge where more than 12 of the agency’s models exquisitely displayed several pieces from Lulu’s Closet located in IC Jewelers at Port Zante.

The men were dressed in black T-shirts and slacks, some in jeans, while the women were dressed in form-fitting, in some cases, revealing dresses and ensembles, giving the audience a taste what to expect at the June event.

After the display, the models took their final walk and assembled in a particular part of the Lounge, surrounding what appeared to be three veiled boards.

Before the veils were removed, Amory thanked those who had and are contributing to the event and informed of the burlesque-inspired experience that awaits those who would attend the show.

Amory, a former model and dancer, told the media that each year the show has a theme and this year he wanted to deviate from the norm and “get out of my box”.

“Over the years I did more classical, modern themes. This year, because Burlesques is more about sexy, how you feel, how you feel in clothes, we decided to do it as a sexy theme.

“This year is more about more revealing clothes…different styles of modelling and a different style of dancing, where the models will be dancing and still modelling.”

Amory said among the designs that would be featured at the event are iRep’s, Caribelle Batik’s, Karen’s, Brown Sugar’s, Footprints’ and pieces from SK Fashion.

From the Movado Modelling Agency, several have entered various pageants across the Federation and abroad, including Miss White Sands, Miss Black San’, the Miss National Carnival Queen Pageant and Mr. Kool.

The Burlesques event will be held at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the curtains are scheduled to open at 5:00 p.m. sharp.

In excess of 25 models are expected to take centre stage.
