BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 7TH 2009 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis has expressed sadness at the tremendous loss of life and property in devastating earthquake that rocked Italy’s mountain city of L’Aquila on Monday.

“The Government and People of St. Kitts and Nevis sympathies with you and the citizens of the Republic of Italy as they experience the trauma of this natural disaster,” Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said in a message on Tuesday to Italian Prime Minister, His Excellency Silvio Berlusconi.

“We pray for you in your rescue efforts with the hope that more survivors will emerge from the rubble and trust that all affected, the bereaved and homeless, will find comfort in the knowledge that the world mourns with them. May restoration be swift and your people be resilient at this most challenging and painful time,” said Dr. Douglas.

Prime Minister Douglas extended “heartfelt condolences and sincere best wishes for you, your family and the entire citizenry of Italy.”
