BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE than 15 individuals accused of committing various traffic offences were convicted and fined or cautioned during Thursday’s (Jun. 4) sitting of the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court before His Honour Reginald Benjamin.
The sum of the fines was in excess of $5 000 and most of the convictions were for careless driving offences.
Akil Clavier of Cayon was fined $350 for an April 17, 2015 incident of careless driving. He has seven days to pay the fine or spend seven days in prison.
St. Peters resident Lesroy Henry was fined $400 for the same offence and had six weeks in which to pay the sum or serve 14 days at Her Majesty’s Prison.
Kirt Douglas of Sandy Point, who was also convicted of careless driving, was fined $350 which is to be paid within seven days or serve seven days in prison.
Travis Gardner of Keys, Hosea Harrington of Conaree, Elroy Nisbett of Taylors Village, George Hodge of Tabernacle, Nigel Walters of Trafalgar, Earl Thompson of St. Johnston’s Village, Jermaine Isaac of Monkey Hill and Rhet Pemberton of Taylors were all convicted of careless driving offences and cautioned by the sitting Magistrate.
Walston Williams of Boyds, for driving without insurance on January 13, 2015, was fined $500 to be paid within two months or, if in default, serve one month in prison.
He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 12 months and ordered to perform four hours of community service each Saturday for the next three months. He is expected to begin today.
Rae Clarke of Mattingley was fined $400 to be paid within six weeks or serve one month behind bars. He was convicted for an April 4, 2015 careless driving offence.
For driving without insurance, careless driving and driving an unlicenced vehicle, Precious Chiemla Okwa was fined $750 to be paid within 14 days and cautioned.
Sandy Point resident Jason Garvey was fined $750 for careless driving, $400 for driving without a driver’s licence and $750 for driving without insurance.
Calvert Clarke of Tabernacle has been ordered to pay a $250-fine in seven days or serve an equal amount of time behind bars. The offence for which he was fined is careless driving committed on April 10, 2015.
Kevaughn David of Sandy Point, Cheddi Bradshaw of Buckley’s Site and Azandi Audain of Lower Cayon were each fined $350 for careless driving offences.
