BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN fulfillment of a promise earlier made, the United Villages of West Farm Palmetto Point and Boyds held a Thanksgiving Service late last week that saw six individuals, who were involved in a traffic accident, receiving financial assistance for their hospital bills.

The service was held on Friday evening (Jun. 5) at the Boyds Ball Court and was attended by several individuals from the group villages and surrounding communities.

Chaired by Bro. Khrystus Wallace, the ceremony got underway at about 7:35 p.m. and featured the singing of several lively gospel songs after which he delivered the Word of God in a brief sermon.

The six victims of the accident who were to receive assistance are Javin Dias, Alvis Dias, Ojani Dunrod, Rejon Hanley, Clyde Herbert and Shavin Hanley.

Having been summoned to the face the gathering, each of them was presented with a receipt that reflected the amount the group had paid on their hospital bill and the amount due to the medical institution.

In a previous interview, the group’s Public Relations Officer, Verlyn Warner told SKNVibes that a total of $3 500 had been raised from a take-away dinner and that sum was equally divided and applied to the men’s hospital bills.

The presentations were made by Group member Cassandra Dias and the men expressed their gratitude for the kind and appreciated gesture.

In an interview with this publication, Javin Dias indicated that he is grateful for the jumpstart he received, as he seeks to settle the costs he incurred from the accident.

“I feel great and thankful for it. It gives me a little start and now I have to take my time and continue finish paying for it. On my hospital bill, I have a little more than $100 left to pay and for the scans. I have $1 650 to pay and I will take my time and pay it off.

“I am part of the group as well and I already told them thanks because I do appreciate it. I told them if I could invent my own words to tell them thanks, I would.”

The accident in which the six were involved occurred on the evening of April 6, 2015 when a pickup truck in which they were travelling overturned and slammed into a tree.

It claimed the life of one, Kervin Bergan, and the others were injured. A total of 12 individuals were said to have been travelling aboard the vehicle when the incident occurred.

Warner said the United Village of West Farm Palmetto Point and Boyds will provide assistance to those in need whenever it could, and she solicits the support of businesses, organisations and individuals as the group continues its humanitarian effort.
