BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CARDIE STAPLETON, the young man who police claimed to be “a person of interest” in connection with the breaking into the offices of two cricket associations and stealing a number of computers, is currently in custody.

A communiqué issued today (Jun. 14) states that officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force received information that Stapleton was seen yesterday (Jun. 13) in a vehicle in the Frigate Bay area.

Consequently, at about 2:55 p.m. an operation was conducted in the Frigate Bay and South East Peninsula areas, which resulted in the apprehension of the 23-year-old.

In an earlier communiqué, police had issued a bulletin for the Taylors Village resident and were seeking the public’s assistance in his apprehension.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 21, 2015, it was reported that locks on the doors of the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) and the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) offices were destroyed.

President of the SKCA Dennis Phillip told SKNVibes that on entering the offices on the day in question, he discovered that they were vandalised and six computers were stolen; two from the SKCA and four from the LICA.

The incident is believed to have occurred between the night of April 20 and the morning of the 21st.

Following investigations into the incident, police had issued a press release on Saturday (May 23), which stated that Kevern Adams of Taylors Housing was arrested and charged on six counts of building breaking and larceny.

Today’s communiqué also states that the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, has taken the opportunity to thank all those who were instrumental in the apprehension of Cardie Stapleton.

“He also encourages members of the community and partner stakeholders to continue to support the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in its efforts to combat crime and the fear of crime in the Federation,” it added.
