Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 28, 2005): The Department of Community and Social Development has planned a host of activities to celebrate the contributions of senior citizens during Octobers commemoration as the Month of the Elderly.
The annual observation will be held under the theme Equity and Longevity for Social Solidarity and officially opened via a speech by the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor who holds responsibility for social development, community and gender affairs. The October 1 speech will air on ZIZ Radio and Television.

Also on October 1 is a service slated for the Cayon Seventh Day Adventist Church. Other highlights of the Month of the Elderly include special editions of the radio programme Health Wise, visits to the elderly by parliamentary representatives, a picnic and an arts and craft exhibition. A concert that features entertaining performances by senior citizens brings the curtains down on the commemoration. The event takes place at the Conaree community center on October 30.
