By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS a fitting start to the one-month countdown to St. Kitts and Nevis’ first-ever Restaurant Week (Jun. 16-26), the Ministry of Tourism hosted a Launch Party on Monday (Jun. 15) at Nirvana Restaurant, where sponsors, restaurateurs, chefs and special guests presented and sampled the finest in local and other cuisine.

The cozy and inviting atmosphere at the restaurant attracted a sizeable crowd which wasted no time in partaking in the culinary creations that were being offered.

The mouth-watering delicacies included Seafood Pasta, Croquettes, Saltfish, Ribs, Breadfruit Balls, Curried Breadfruit, Chicken in Mango Sauce, a variety of desserts for those who have a sweet tooth, and the list goes on.

Besides the culinary artistry and satisfying dishes, the Launch Party encompassed a number of other attractions including the Breadfruit Challenge, which was won by Maureen Stapleton, the revealing of the Restaurant Week’s Jingle prepared by popular local artiste ‘Infamus’ and brief remarks by both the Minister of Tourism the Hon. Lindsay Grant and the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Eugene Hamilton.

The jingle, which is said to be a convincing method of encouraging participation in the historic Restaurant Week expresses:

“St. Kitts-Nevis get ready, restaurants get ready, ‘cause d people ready to eat.
I want to encourage you to dine out and eat from July 16, Restaurant Week. And if you never eat out before, Restaurant Week ah de time for sure. Local ingredients galore, Breadfruit challenge and so much more…”

The tapping feet which was observed as the jingle was being played was proof that its catchy rhythm and tune resonated in the ears of the attendees.

The Tourism Minister said Restaurant Week is momentous for the Federation because we now join world-class destinations in hosting such a group of activities.

Grant said he understands that our society is not traditionally one that often dines out, but suggested that individuals take the opportunity to do so during Restaurant Week.

The Agriculture Minister expressed that he and his Ministry support the initiative, especially with its thrust to encourage the consumption of more locally-produced foods.

The list of restaurants that would be participating in the Restaurant Week are Montpelier Plantation Inn, Royal Palm at Ottley’s Plantation Inn, the Veranda at Ocean Terrace Inn, Blu at St. Kitts Marriott Resort, Cathy’s Ocean View Lobster Special, Four Seasons Resort in Nevis, Fisherman’s Wharf at Ocean Terrace Inn, Jamrock, Marshall’s, Nirvana, Rock Lobster, Serendipity, Spice Mill, Sweet Lime, Mr. X Shiggidy Shack, Sprat Net, Sunset Café at Timothy Beach Resort, Oscora, Shekina Glory Snackette and Yanday by the Sea.
