CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A PREGNANT woman who was found guilty of assaulting her daughter will be a guest at Her Majesty’s Prison for the next two months.

Candace Andrews of Bath Village was sentenced by Magistrate Yasmin Clarke on Tuesday (Apr. 7) for burning her daughter on her right hand.

Magistrate Clarke also sentenced one other person to jail and instituted fines on four others.

Sentenced to two years in jail was Leon Samuels of Conaree. Samuels, already a guest of Her Majesty’s Prison, pleaded guilty to wounding fellow inmate Nicoyan Greaux on October 12, 2008 at the prison’s farm. Samuel’s sentence will run consecutive to the seven-year term he is currently serving for house breaking with intent.

Those fined were Kristopher Crosse, Raul Hope, Natoya Narine and Edward Boncich.

Crosse pleaded guilty to larceny for stealing a laptop between December 29 and 31, 2008 at Prospect. He was fined $2 000 which must be paid in 12 months, or spend six months in jail.

Hope, a resident of Morning Star, pleaded guilty to the traffic offenses of leaving an accident scene and careless driving. He was fined $1 000 to be paid in one month, and another $1 000 to be paid in two months on the respective charges. The alternative of not paying the fines is one month in prison on both counts. Hope also had his driver’s license disqualified for three months.

Narine of Craddock Road also pleaded guilty to two traffic offenses. She was fined $500 to be paid in two months, or one month in prison for driving a vehicle when she was not covered by the insurance; and $500 to be paid in one month, or one month in prison for driving without a valid driver’s license.

Boncich, also of Craddock Road, was fined $500, which must to be paid in three months, for allowing Natoya Narine to drive his vehicle when he knew that she was not covered by its insurance. He was also fined $250, to be paid in three months, for allowing her to drive when she was not a holder of an appropriate driver’s license. He will spend a month in jail on each charge if he does not pay the fines.
