You are hereby put on notice.
The practice of politics within our culture has become too divisive and is now unpatriotic. We have grown accustomed to angry rhetoric that is void of truth and leadership. We are asking that you move more toward a gospel-centered tone and form of conduct.
• When you lie, we know it.
• When you are petty, we see it.
• When you are corrupt, it becomes known to us.
• When you speak from anger rather than love and understanding, we feel it in our soul.
• When you lack integrity, it shows.
• When you make promises and don’t keep them, we’ll hold you accountable.
Our elections are important to us because we vote with our trust and belief that you will put all the petty politics behind you and lead us. When you are in office we expect you to lead with integrity. Why? Our very lives and welfare have been placed in your hands.
In or out of office, we expect you to have decorum and dignity. We understand you must always represent your party and maintain balance, but when you go too far and this results in embarrassment on a world stage, please check yourself.
We the people respect positive leadership that elevates St. Kitts and Nevis. We are actually tired of the toxic behaviour which has become the politics of our day. You continue to use this form of communication with us, but we have grown so very weary.
Lead us with positivity and inner conviction and you will certainly have our respect.
If you are no longer in office, lead us from the private sector. Show us that you have real solutions that work, and we will vote you back in office. You don’t have to wait until you are re-elected to put your solutions to work for us, we actually need them today.
Why spew seeds of doubt and division when you can make a positive and enduring difference through your constructive leadership and actions within the private sector. We know you have the resources and connections to make a difference in both action and deed. Next time you are on the radio, please…let’s have discussions about what you are doing to build us up, not what the other party is failing to do. Do this, and watch our sentiment move toward your positive contributions.
We know that you still have international contacts and valued relationships, please continue to work to elevate business, trade, and opportunity through private enterprise.
In power, we expect you to empower us through sound public policy. If you do a great job, we will reward you at the polls next time around. Remember, you made promises to us outlined in your Manifesto. We will be checking them off one by one. We voted you in office because we felt confident in your commitments to us.
Labour and Unity, crime needs a solution regardless, and we all know you don’t have to be in office to help us find real solutions. Stop pointing fingers because this isn’t about your political party or placing blame. Our country is at risk and we need everyone working together now.
If you truly are concerned about our international image, please stop slandering our nation with outcry of corruption. You say you would never bring our nation down, but this is precisely what you are doing with your angry castigations. Please think before you speak, and if we find out you are, or were ever corrupt, we will prosecute you. We expect honourable examples and role models from our national leaders, and for our children.
You see, as our beloved national leaders, we all know that YOU have a choice to do the right thing for us. We know you have a higher nature and purpose than to witness you tear down and divide, using angry words all the time. Help us develop our economy and our country, backed with your past experience in and out of government. Can you do this? Will you do this for us?
Listen carefully. We the people want and desire to give our elected officials time and space to keep their promises, free from mudslinging and bitterness. Give them time. It’s in our national interest to do so. They will either rise to their promises or fail. We have given them five years. Our democratic values gave them five years. Time spent attempting to tear our elected government down just distracts from the progress we truly need. We wish to support and help them succeed. To us, it’s about our national strength, it’s about our children, it’s about a strong nation above party.
We want to leave you with this final message. Rise above your petty differences. Show maturity and lead. Lead us from your public office, lead us from the private sector — but lead and show reverence and respect for our nation. We want more love and unity. We need more positive energy.
We the people are not against Labour. We are not against the Government of National Unity. We the people are for a strong and vibrant nation free from nasty and destructive politics. We want to show the world that our religious values extend beyond the Sunday pulpit and above politics.
We love you for who you are, and for what you have done for our country, and we believe in you! In office or not, you are without a doubt our blessed leaders. Please bring your solutions, your ideas, and your desire to elevate us. The change we desire is to work together toward a better Federation.
