BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TRAGEDY struck the Sandy Point/Fig Tree community yesterday afternoon (Jul. 21) when a teenage boy drowned.
The District Commander of that area, Superintendent Cromwell Henry, told SKNVibes that the 15-year-old has been identified as Jovan Eddy.
He explained that Eddy was part of a group of boys who went swimming at Pump Bay, Fig Tree and while doing so towards some fishing boats that were anchored some distance from the shore, he encountered difficulty and was eventually submerged in the water.
Superintendent Henry further explained that a red flag was raised by a boy with whom Eddy swam and assistance was requested.
“He was subsequently found by adults who were on shore, and took him to the shore where attempts were made to revive his motionless body. The ambulance was summoned to the scene and Emergency Technicians assisted Eddy before transporting him to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
The senior officer said another individual was transported to the Pogson Hospital where he was warded and is said to be in stable condition.
The incident reportedly took place sometime after 3:00 p.m.
It is expected that an autopsy, to determine the cause of Eddy’s death, would be performed and investigations into the incident are being made.
