BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – REGULAR operations in the New Road community were disrupted this morning (Jul. 29) when a number of individuals fired shots at a group of young men, injuring one or more in the process.
Information concerning the incident remains sketchy at this point, however, unconfirmed reports suggest that sometime before 11:00 a.m. the men were in an area near the St. Peter’s Main Road and Tegreman Boulevard when a number of gunmen approached and fired a number of shots in their direction.
Further unconfirmed reports indicate that one of the men was shot in his arm. However, other reports suggest that a second man was also injured during the incident.
It is said that the wounded was (were) taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via private transportation.
Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, including the K9 Unit, responded to the report and were seen conducting investigations into the incident.
This publication contacted the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Officer close to 3:30 this afteroon to ask about the incident. He however indicated that he knew about the incident but did not provide any details via telephone.
The PRO suggested that this media house should wait until a press release is disseminated.
“Yes, a release will be sent out shortly…So you can wait for the release,” he said.
At press time, no release was received from the police.
