BASSETERRE St. Kitts – FOUNDER of Operation Future Officer Lauston Percival paid a visit to the residents of Camp Joshua 2015 on Monday (Aug. 3) to have a frank and timely discussion on dealing with the struggles they face as children/teenagers.

The officer, who works at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court and has spoken with and counselled thousands of school-aged children across the Federation, engaged the campers in a heart-to-heart discussion on issues that they either are facing or are likely to face as their advance in age.

The campers were invited by Officer Percival to question him at anytime during his presentation and to interact with him whenever they deemed it necessary so to do.

The atmosphere and setting were relaxed but the topics were captivating, intense and included Gang Violence, Drug Use and Drug Abuse, Respect, ‘Sexting’ and the Power of Social Media.

Many school-aged children often engage in illegal and unacceptable behaviour because they yield to peer pressure. Officer Percival however told the campers that “peer pressure is no pressure”. Explaining his point of view, he indicated that no one could force them to do anything wrong or bad that they do not want to do. He explained that no matter how severe the pressure is there is always a choice to yield to it or to reject it.

Drawing from examples of anonymous children with whom he had dealt and individuals who have been incarcerated because of their dealings, the Operation Future founder encouraged the campers to learn from those situations and choose paths that would take them down the road of success.

“Take your education seriously” was the challenge Officer Percival repeated to the campers. He told the campers to seize the opportunities given to them and make good of them.

Making further reference to residents of Her Majesty’s Prison, Percival indicated to the attentive campers that they, even while behind bars, are taking their education very seriously by successfully sitting examinations.

After fielding several hard-hitting questions from the group, Officer Percival was thanked by one of the children on behalf of Camp Joshua 2015 for his presence.

This year’s camp ran from July 31 to August 4. Camp Joshua was founded by Prophetess Karen England and falls under the umbrella of Joshua Ministries International (JMI).
