BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Basseterre Fire Department suspects that an individual or individuals had attempted to destroy a Shaw Avenue house by fire earlier today (Aug. 5).
The unoccupied wooden and concrete structure is located at Upper Shaw Avenue, according to Fire Chief, Everette O’Garro.
He told SKNVibes that at about 8:40 this morning, the Fire Department received a report of a fire and promptly responded. When the unit arrived at the scene, it found that smoke was coming from the three-bedroom house.
Chief O’Garro explained that according to investigations, the fire was lit from under the house and burned through the floor of a bedroom at the back of it.
The fire, however, did not spread to other rooms of the house because the Fire Department unit was successful in quenching it.
O’Garro informed that while at the scene, the fire officers picked up the scent of an accelerant or substance used to light fires.
