Acting Commissioner Stafford Liburd

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is taking a new approach in the execution of its Six-Point Plan to combat crime by seeking to tap into the expertise and wealth of knowledge of former police officers.

A press release issued today (Aug. 7) by the organisation’s Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, informs that “all former police officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, regardless of rank, who are desirous of assisting in the fight against crime” should attend for a meeting to be held next week.

Speaking with this publication, Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd explained that the Force is taking this route because it realises that there is pertinent knowledge that the former officers could pass on to the current officers.

“There are a number of former officers who possess a wealth of knowledge, and such knowledge is important to share with the present serving members of the Police Force. Also, we believe that they can add in assisting us in our present Six-Point Plan.

“We believe that they can share and help to mold a number of our junior officers. Along with that, it is important that we continue building a relationship with the public and the public includes those officers.”

Liburd indicated that the invitation is extended to those officers who voluntarily left the Force, whether by resignation or retirement.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (Aug. 12) at the Police Training Complex at 4:40 p.m. and, according to the communiqué, “at this meeting the areas of your involvement, contribution and possible packages will be discussed”.

Liburd told SKNVibes that the possibility exists for some officers to be temporarily employed with the organisation.

He explained that this initiative is separate from the Police Force’s regular recruitment drive in which it seeks applications from those wishing to join the organisation for the first time.

The Acting Commissioner indicated that before the year concludes, it is hoped that a batch of recruits would have been trained and inducted into the Police Force.
