BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE members of a family, including two female juveniles, are said to be in police custody for allegedly committing battery on two law enforcement officers yesterday (Aug. 16) afternoon.
Reports reaching SKNVibes state that an 18-year-old male and his two sisters, aged 17 and 15, were involved in a physical confrontation with two members (a male and a female) of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, which resulted in the officers nursing different degrees of injury.
The incident took place yesterday at about 1:00 p.m. in Taylors Village.
Speaking with the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, this media house was told that the incident did occur and the police have since taken the three accused into custody pending investigations.
Because of the ages of the teens, the PRO could not provide their names or those of the officers, as well as details of the incident. He did however confirm that the two officers were in Taylors Village pertaining to a report of damage to the windscreen of a vehicle.
SKNVibes was reliably informed that the two officers were in the village to serve a warrant on a young male who allegedly threw an object that damaged the rear windscreen of a senior police officer who resides in that community.
“The two officers went to investigate the damage caused to a car that belongs to a senior police officer who lives in Taylors Village. The investigation led the officers to conclude that the damage was done by a little boy who lives in the area. The officers went to his home and one of his sisters wanted to know the reason for their presence.
“The officers explained the reason for them being there and an older brother came out of the house and joined her. Again the officers explained why they were there and were told that they cannot see the little boy. The officers then called out for the boy’s mother and the older brother went back into the house. He subsequently returned and told the officers that his mother did not want to speak to them,” one resident said.
The resident explained that the two officers departed the village but returned shortly after with a warrant and were denied entry into the house.
“The officers went away and came back with a warrant. When they approached the house they were told that they cannot enter and the girl pushed the male officer. In retaliation, the officer pulled out his baton and the older brother, who was to the rear of him, pulled it away and dealt the officer a blow to his head.
“The officer seemed somewhat dazed and the older brother was joined by his two sisters and together they gave the two officers a sound thrashing with the baton and other objects.”
The source said the commotion had attracted many residents of the area, among whom one had alerted a Superintendent of Police. And shortly after armed members of the SSU arrived at the scene and took the older male and his sisters to the Basseterre Police Station.
The source also said that in a situation of such nature, the SSU members had held themselves in restraint and should be commended for the professionalism they displayed.
