Police recover items stolen from Supermarket

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A joint search operation conducted by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force resulted in the find of a large quantity of items stolen from the Island Food Supermarket on Cayon Street, as well as a number of cannabis sativa (marijuana) plants.

     

    According to a police release, the supermarket was broken into between August 27 and 28, 2015 and the lead investigator requested assistance from other units to conduct a thorough search in proximity of the supermarket with the hope of finding the stolen items.

    The lead investigator’s request was granted and he was joined by several members of the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Services Unit, Forensic Services Unit and the Defence Force.

    The search operation was conducted on Saturday (Aug. 29) in the Westbourne Ghaut and Prickly Pear Alley areas and realised the find of Sanyo Television set, a quantity of Beehive Brandy, a quantity of assorted liquor, soaps and other personal hygiene items, Huggies Pampers and a large amount of EC coins in an abandoned premises.

    Also found on the property were 35 marijuana plants ranging from one to seven feet in height.

    The release stated that the items were identified as those stolen from the supermarket and that the scene was processed, the marijuana plants uprooted and taken into police custody along with the stolen items.

    It noted that the Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, was high in praise of the lead investigator.

    “I commend the initiative of the lead investigator in requesting an area search. He did not assume that the items were far gone.”

    Queeley is also noted as saying that as a result of the search, the police were able to take a quantity of cannabis off the street.

    “The investigation into this break-in continues and, with community support, the offenders can be found,” the ACP added. 
     
    The Crime Chief also reiterated his call to the law-abiding citizens of the twin-island Federation.

    “If you have seen something, if you have heard something as it relates to this or any violent crime, or any criminal activity, tell someone. Call the Basseterre or Charlestown Police Stations or any police station with your information.”
     
    “To provide information on any criminal activity, citizens can call any police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS)”, the release noted.
