September 15th, 2015 -- In a small but rather interactive session, the newly-appointed Carnival Management Team held its first Community Consultation in Sandy Point on Monday evening, September 14th. The forum ran from 7:00 pm through 9:30 pm at the Community Centre. It was hosted by Noah Mills, the Carnival Chairman, who was ably assisted by Mr. Charles Thomas, Team Leader for the Soca Competition, and Mr. Ivor Blake, Team Leader for Streets Activities. The evening started with a fun activity, where two of the attendees won prizes compliments the Carnival Committee.
After introductions, the meeting got on the way and saw the Committee present its five (5) key objectives for Carnival 2015-16.
These include:
- Upholding Absolute Transparency
- Practicing Total Inclusion
- Maintaining Patron/Spectator Safety
- Maximizing Patron/Spectator Entertainment
- Continuing to augment the Overall Quality of Carnival as a Tourism Product
The Committee then presented some of its plans for Sugar Mas 44. Each item was subsequently dissected by the gathering to refine same. The attendees also offered their original ideas. One really unique suggestion was to host a Caroling Competition during the Carnival Festivities. It was felt that over the years, the timing of Carnival and the type of activities held, had eroded the true spirit of Christmas.
As such, a Caroling Competition would serve to help reintroduce this Spirit. Thus, one should not be surprised if such a Caroling Competition were to materialize during Sugar Mas 44. Having such an activity would reflect two things. Namely, that the Committee is indeed adhering to its “Total Inclusion” objective, and secondly, the importance of Consultation. A total of ten Consultation sessions are planned for St. Kitts and three for Nevis.
