BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN autopsy was recently performed on Obi Baron, the non-national who was killed during a drug bust at Conaree Beach on October 1.
Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd told SKNVibes that Pathologist Dr. Alexandrov performed the autopsy on Baron, a Dominican who was residing in Antigua and Barbuda, on Friday (Oct. 9).
While indicating that he was not in a position to state the exact cause of death, as the information was not at hand, Liburd informed that it was gunshot related.
The Commissioner (Ag) told this publication that Baron’s relatives are in the Federation and his body should have been turned over to them after the autopsy was completed.
Liburd had previously told this media house that a Coroner’s Inquest would be held following the autopsy, but when questioned the top cop stated that he was not in a position to say when the procedure would begin.
Background
At about 5:00 a.m. on October 1, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force conducted a sting operation at Conaree Beach during which four bails (124 pounds) of compressed marijuana were seized along with three individuals, one non-national and two nationals.
According to police reports, a vessel bearing two non-nationals was approaching shore while a pickup truck was seen on the beach. And as the vessel got closer, the occupants were “challenged” by the police and one of the individuals responded with gunfire.
Police reports further stated that the officers returned fire and one man (Baron) was killed during the process.
The other occupant of the vessel, Greg Williamson, and the two individuals on the beach with the pickup truck, Tenielle Percival and Kenrick Simmonds, along with the marijuana and a firearm which was fished out of the ocean, were taken into police custody.
Several charges were preferred against the three men, and following bail applications Simmonds was granted his pre-trial freedom while Williamson and Percival were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.
