BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOR the second time in as many weeks, ranks of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have conducted searches on properties in the McKnight area and found a quantity of illegal items.
A police communiqué stated that members of the Special Services Unit, supported by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, the Criminal Investigations Division and the Forensic Services Unit, had early this morning (Oct. 12) executed Search Warrants on two properties in the McKnight area.
One of the searches was executed on a property in Prickly Pear Alley, which resulted in the find of a large quantity of marijuana, a black ski mask and a toy gun.
The communiqué stated that “detained in connection with this find is Troy Francis who was present on the property”.
Also, a quantity of marijuana was found during another search on Fiennes Avenue “at the residence of Ronrick Herbert”.
He, too, was taken into police custody.
On Monday (Sept. 28), a communiqué had informed that Enslie Lewis, Lewis Powell and Peet Douglas were taken into custody following the find of an unlicenced firearm and a quantity of ammunition in the McKnight area.
It further stated that the search was in keeping with the Force’s Six-Point Plan, which resulted in the discovery and confiscation of one Taurus handgun and 10 matching rounds of ammunition.
Also on that day, police said a search on Shaw Avenue resulted in the find of a quantity of marijuana and one Tajal Heyliger was taken into custody.
On Tuesday (Oct. 6), another communiqué informed that the trio was jointly arrested, charged and caution for the offences of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.
In relation to this morning’s find, one member of the Special Services Unit reportedly said: “The continued search effort by our officers is yielding results. We will continue to search both properties and persons. We will do what it takes to make our Federation safe.” And another member reportedly added that “days like these give me the encouragement to keep doing”.
The communiqué quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police Queeley as saying: “We urge anyone with information that can assist the police in our fight against crime to call any police station in the Federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) to share information. The information is critical to keeping St. Kitts and Nevis safe.”
