BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RUMOURS that there might have been a slight Cabinet reshuffle was debunked by a member of the Team Unity Administration.
The rumours specify that Minister of Tourism the Hon. Lindsay Grant has been stripped of that portfolio and it was given to Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Premier in the Nevis Island Administration, the Hon. Mark Brantley.
SKNVibes made attempts this morning (Oct. 14) to contact Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris to ask if the rumours had any truth to them. The attempts however were futile, and a similar call was made to Brantley which also proved fruitless.
However, contact was made with the Attorney-General, the Hon. Vincent Byron Jr., who declared that nothing of the sort has taken place as far as he is aware.
“There seems to be some sort of rumour, rumour mongering. As far as I know there has been no restructuring. It is within the purview of the Prime Minister at any time to be able to ask various members of the Government side to take on responsibilities…And for one reason or another that may be the case. For as far as I know, there has been no decision by the Hon. Prime Minister to make any new changes to the Ministry of Tourism.
“We expect a bumper tourism season. We think it will be a good tourist season and Mr. Grant has done considerable work during the course of the year in travelling to various destinations to promote St. Kitts and the tourism season, and we expect that we’ll have a very good tourist season this year.”
This afternoon, as was indicated in a press release issued by the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) yesterday, is to appear on the Government’s radio talk show programme ‘Working for You’, where he “is expected to give an overview of his ministries with special focus on the main industry of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Tourism Industry’.
“Mr. Grant will speak to the prosperity agenda of the Team Unity Administration as it relates to the happenings in his ministries. He will also address issues related to the challenges and opportunities at Port Zante,” the SKNIS press release informed.
