BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A juvenile, who according to a member of the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, was involved in an altercation with a police officer early this morning (Oct. 17) and was shot and killed.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley told this publication that the incident occurred at about 3:45 a.m. at Enrique’s Bar located at Cedar Trees, Charlestown, Nevis.
Queeley informed that according to information he received, an altercation took place between a police officer and a group of young males during which the officer was injured.
He further explained that the police officer, who was off-duty at the time, “discharged his firearm in his defence and shot a male juvenile”.
The young man, who the police describe as a 17-year-old of Hamilton Village, was reportedly transported via private vehicle to the Alexandra Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
A police press release indicates that he was pronounced dead 25 minutes after the incident occurred.
The Violent Crimes Unit is making investigations into the matter.
