The Six Point Plan, An Effective Initiative to Enhance Public Safety and Security

Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris and Stafford Liburd, Acting Commissioner of Police along with Security Personnel
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 22, 2015 (SKNIS): The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has formulated a Six-Point Plan to boost public safety and security. Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Minister of National Security, said that the Government expects no overnight miracles, as it impossible to remedy ten years’ worth of damage in eight months.

Addressing the National Consultation on the Economy on Thursday, October 22, Dr. Harris noted the Government’s satisfaction with the plan.

“So far, application of the plan has resulted in a 23.5 percent reduction in serious crimes, including sexual offences in our country,” he said, adding that it fell from 50 in 2013 to 34 in 2014 and 22 in 2015 for the comparative period January to September.

The National Security Minister stated that homicides that were averaging 3.5 per month by mid February 2015 are still high, but trending downwards.

“Since the introduction of the Six Point Plan, homicides average one per month compared with three homicides per month prior to the plan,” he said.

“The six point plan embodies inter alia (among other things) intelligence-led policing, targeted operations and collaboration with other Government Agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” said Dr. Harris. “The plan also seeks to make improvements in the administration of the Police Force and engage stakeholders such as yourselves.”

The Six Point Plan was launched in July, 2015.
