ARRESTED: Robinson Hercules
By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have made headway in solving the case of vandalism committed earlier this month at the Estridge Primary School and Pavilion in Mansion Village.

A police press release issued yesterday (Apr. 22) informed that Robinson Hercules of Mansion Estate was “arrested and charged for two counts of malicious damage to the Estridge Primary School and the Mansions.”

According to a communiqué issued by the Education Department, during the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, April 12, 2009, an individual entered the premises, “knocked out and destroyed all the windows from a section of the school. A total of 50 window panes and supporting frames were destroyed.”

The release further indicated that burglary, as a motive, was ruled out as “nothing was apparently taken from the school”.

The vandal continued his reign and turned his attention to the Mansion Playground pavilion which had nine window panes shattered.

The Ministry of Education described the act as “deplorable and senseless” and expressed that it directly negatively impacts attendees of the learning institution.

In related news, Hercules was sentenced to serve a six-month prison sentence following conviction of a drug related offence.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry explained to SKNVibes that officers went to Hercules’ home to arrest him in connection with the Estridge Primary School incident and, while there, found marijuana on his premises.

He was taken into custody and charged with “possession of marijuana” and “cultivation of marijuana”. He was taken before the District “B” Magistrate Court, Sandy Point on Tuesday (Ap. 21) and was convicted on both counts.

The presiding magistrate sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment on each count; they will run concurrently.

While serving his sentence on the illegal drugs conviction, Hercules will be awaiting the announcement of the date for his trial on the malicious damage charges.
