By: Office of the Press Secretary, Press Release

October 29, 2015 -- Prime Minister Harris arrived in Hong Kong on the second leg of his Asian visit  as part of his Team Unity Government's efforts to raise the international profile of the reformed Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme.

During a private luncheon attended by service providers, agents, developers and media houses, Prime Minister Harris accepted that there had been some delays and uncertainty but "as a new Administration, we needed to pause and to take stock. However, we are looking to the future and I can assure you that with the raft of practical and substantive reforms now in place, St. Kitts and Nevis is better placed to ensure greater efficiency, reliability, integrity, transparency and accountability."

Prime Minister Harris described some of the steps taken which include the establishment of an electronic management system to expedite processing and to allow clients and their agents access to the Unit 24/7 to know the status of application; the appointment of new and qualified staff; and enhanced oversight and management.

Prime Minister Harris also acknowledged new St. Kitts and Nevis citizens who were in attendance and invited them and other participants to join his Government in promoting the opportunities and lifestyle that St. Kitts and Nevis offers. "This is no boast, but St.  Kitts and Nevis is among the best performing economies in the Caribbean and Latin America and one of the best places to work, live and raise families."

Prime Minister Harris also emphasised that St. Kitts and Nevis is open to business and that his Government welcomes investment from all legitimate investors. He reminded the invitees that St. Kitts and Nevis does not believe in discrimination. He extended an invitation to investors who can help advance his Government's commitment to building prosperity for all though greater employment opportunities and decent pay.

Earlier in the day,  the Prime Minister participated in a two-hour media briefing with media houses from Hong Kong and beyond such as the China Economic Times, China Business News,  Macao Commercial Post and the Hong Kong Economic Journals. The series of questions spoke to the hightened interest across Asia to learn more about Government's economic and social policies, the CBI reforms and investment opportunities in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Prime Minister Harris was accompanied by Attorney General, the Honorable Vincent Byron and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, His Excellency Dr Kevin M. Isaac.
