By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A police-issued communiqué disseminated today (Nov. 7) concerning the shooting incident that took place last evening on Port Zante, revealed the name of the victim and presented some of the alleged circumstances of the incident.

Received by this publication at approximately 11:38 a.m., the release informed that the victim is Akil ‘Jiah’ Clavier of Spooner’s Village, Cayon.

It informed that “reports indicate he received several gunshot injuries while driving his motorcar P3053 in the Basseterre area”, which took place “around midnight (Friday, November 07)”.

The release also informed that the 27-year-old was “transported to the J. N. F General Hospital where he was treated and detained for injuries to his back. His condition is listed as critical. The investigation is ongoing”.

Contrary to some of the contents in the communiqué, an investigation launched by this publication revealed that Clavier was shot while he was near his vehicle in the vicinity of the second roundabout on the western side of Port Zante.

This publication understands that while there, a vehicle approached from which multiple shots were fired and Clavier was hit. Further information gathered by this media house indicated that he was rushed to the hospital via a private vehicle.

The release quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley as appealing for the public’s assistance in solving this crime.

“If you have seen something, if you have heard something as it relates to this or any crime, or any criminal activity, tell someone. Call the Basseterre or Charlestown Police Station or any PoliceStation with your information. You can also do so anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8577 (TIPS).”
