    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUSTICE continues to be served at the Federation’s courts, and as recent at Tuesday (Apr. 21) a number of persons were found guilty of committing criminal offences.

     

    According to a police press release, a number of persons appeared before the District “B” Magistrate’s Court, Sandy Point and were issued jail time as comeuppance for their follies.

     

    Old Road resident Dudley Tyson was convicted of “exposing his person in public” and was sentenced to serve a three-month prison sentence.

     

    Christ Church inhabitant Joseph ‘J’ Duporte was convicted of two drug-related offences and sentenced to prison on both counts.

     

    Police have informed that on April 4 of this year, an interdiction exercise conducted in the Christ Church Ghaut area resulted in Duporte being found in a field of marijuana “packaging harvested marijuana. A search warrant was later executed on his home, where a quantity of marijuana was also found”. Both sets of drugs were taken into police custody and Duporte was arrested and charged with one count each of “possession of marijuana”, “marijuana cultivation” and “possession with intent to supply”.

     

    He was sentenced to serve seven days imprisonment on the first count, nine months on the second, and one month on the third. All sentences are to run concurrently.

     

    Other persons, who appeared before the District “B” Magistrate Court and also the District “C” Magistrate Court in Nevis, were issued fines as punishment for their crimes.

     

    Cleverly Hill, Sandy Point resident Lorenzo Hendrickson was convicted of “marijuana possession” and “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”, to wit a scissors, and was cautioned on the latter and fined $1 000 on the former charge.

     

    The sum is to be paid within three months and, if he fails to do so, a one-month custodial sentence would be imposed.

     

    Dennis Stanley of Brown Hill, Nevis has one month to pay an $800 fine which was imposed on him after conviction of a “battery” offence. He was accused of beating Roy Williams of Brown Hill; an incident which police state took place on March 22, 2009 at Government Road, Nevis.  A one-month custodial sentence would be imposed if he fails to pay the sum within the prescribed time.

     

    Brown Pasture, Nevis inhabitant Kevin Chapman was convicted of stealing a cellular telephone “that was left in a Chinese Supermarket in Charlestown” and was fined $500 which is to be paid within two months.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Persons arrested over the past couple of days will shortly make appearances before the court to answer to their charges.

     

    Sandy Point resident Leroy Boone was arrested and charged with the offence of “rape”. The alleged incident was committed on March 13, 2009 in the Sandy Point area.

     

    For an April 9, 2009 offence of “burglary”, Jason Winston Rouse of Shear Lane was arrested and charged. The offence, according to police, was committed at Shadwell Housing.

     

    A juvenile of Molyneaux was arrested and charged with one count of “house breaking and larceny” which, according to police, was committed on April 18, 2009 at Sandy Point.

     

    One charge of “possession of marijuana” was preferred against Dwight James of Sandy Point.

     

    Gamba Levine of La Guerite has been accused of committing an April 19, 2009 offence of “house breaking and larceny” at Humming Bird Development.

     

    Rawlins, Gingerland resident Alexander Mills was arrested and charged with an April 17, 2009 offence of “wounding”.
