BACKGROUND
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has been working assiduously to ensure that when the world’s leaders gather in Paris for the Climate Change Conference, COP21, November 30-11 December, urgent measures to combat both the causes and the consequences of climate change will be approved. The Conference and its outcomes are extremely important to Small Island and Low-lying Developing States (SIDs) of CARICOM. Our countries are extremely vulnerability to the impacts of climate change resulting from the emission of high levels of green house gases.
REQUEST
In an effort to continue to support the advocacy of CARICOM’s positions ahead of the negotiations for a new global climate change agreement, and to raise awareness among citizens of the Community, the CARICOM Secretariat is requesting your kind assistance in broadcasting two video statements:
- Statement by the Lead Head of CARICOM on Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Dr. The Hon. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of St. Lucia;
- Statement by the Chairman of the CARICOM, Rt. Hon. Freundel Stuart, Prime Minister of Barbados.
Given the critical importance of CARICOM’s involvement in the negotiations for a new global climate change agreement in Paris, we would be highly appreciative of your kind support in distributing the links to these messages to all broadcast media in your respective countries, in addition to facilitating their broadcast on your own television programmes.
