Grenada bans Vybz Kartel

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ADIJA PALMER, popularly known as Vybz Kartel, received yet another ban. This time, however, is from performing at a show in Grenada.

This follows a previous ban of his single featuring Spice called ‘Romping Shop’, which was banned in Jamaica.

According to a release coming out of Grenada, the artiste, who is known for some strong ghetto lyrics along with his band, was recently denied performance work permits  for a concert dubbed ‘Rap it up’.

The concert was scheduled for Saturday, May, 2 in Grenada, which was to also see the official launch of his new ‘Daggering Condom’.

The release further stated that no reason was given by the Ministry of Labour in Grenada for the refusal of the work permits, but the sensitive issue of censorship or freedom of expression may have been at the forefront.

The promoter of the event is claiming thousands of dollars in losses and is now seeking legal advice since neither he nor the artistes were aware of the Government’s blacklisting.

Vybz Kartel last performed in Grenada on December, 5, 2008 to a sold out audience.

He is schedule to perform in Trinidad on May 8.

Meanwhile, duo Patrick ‘Curly’ Lox and Paul ‘Tu-Lox’ Gaynor, who are popularly known as Twins of the dancehall, are gearing up for the eight volume of ‘Stir it Up’ which this time will feature the feud between Vybz Kartel and Mavado, titled ‘Trial and Crosses’.
