Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 9, 2015 (SKNIS): Five eye-catching mascots with accompanying creative slogans have been submitted to the Nutrition Mascot and Slogan Design contest, initiated by the Ministry of Health’s Nutrition Surveillance Programme, and it is now up to the public to decide which one best represents healthy living.
The nutrition programme supports the view that nutrition interventions are important to improve a child’s diet. This is why it sought to utilize the secondary schools as vessels to foster a healthier environment and promote healthy lifestyles as children and adolescents’ expectations of food have change in recent years.
Without identifying which school they are supporting, persons are encouraged to ‘like’ their favourite design on “Ministry of Health, St. Kitts and Nevis, Nutrition Surveillance Programme” on Facebook. The deadline for selections is on January 15, 2016.
The Nutrition Programme will then determine which final three will be adjudged winners.
Features of the design that persons should consider when selecting are the possibility of the mascot being translated into a wearable costume which can be human, animal, vegetable or fruit (fiction / non-fiction); it should be able to be attractively presented; it should be appropriate at both athletic and non-athletic events; it should be unique and have a connection to nutrition /healthy lifestyle; and it should support future marketing and communication activities.
The winning design will be proudly utilized in schools and at school functions to get students excited about good nutrition and physical fitness.
