Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 8, 2017 (RSCNPF): The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Special Services Unit (SSU) and the Nevis Division has started 2016 with a renewed thrust in vehicular and property searches.
The searches are conducted on persons and properties of interest and are carried out in attempts to rid our communities of controlled drugs, illegal firearms, ammunition and other articles that can used in the commission of a crime.
To date in 2016, the efforts have removed one(1) illegal firearm and 16 rounds of ammunition from our communities. The firearm and ammunition was seized during a vehicular stop and search on (January 3).
Head of the Nevis Division, Supt. Hilroy Brandy said, "The intensified efforts by our officers is demonstrative that in 2016 we can really make a significant difference to the safety of our communities. In 2015 we removed 21 firearms from the streets and we were successful with the drugs we seized." He added, "We want to see a reduction in gun related crimes, and with your help we can make a difference."
The Nevis Division Head noted, that his Officers appreciate the cooperation of drivers who are stopped. He said, "The stop and searches are all a part of the efforts in ensuring citizen safety," and expressed "we urge our citizens to partner with us in our efforts to keep our communities safe and encouraged citizens to share any information they may have seen or heard with regards to crime or criminal activity with the Police."
