Volcanoes, Marooners NAGICO Super 50 match rained out

Windward Volcanoes players prepare to take the field again after one of the rain breaks on Saturday morning
By: NAGICO, Press Release

January 10th, 2016 -- The Windward Volcanoes and the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners had to settle for a point each after their match was rained out in St. Paul’s Cricket Grounds in St. Kitts on Saturday. The Marooners probably feel hard done to have their first two matches affected by rain and especially seeing they were on a great run in Saturday’s match.

Despite batting first and having their innings reduced to 40 overs, the Marooners posted a modest 233 runs and due to the Duckworth Lewis Method were given an additional six runs taking the total to 239 runs. At the time the game was called off, the Marooners had the Volcanoes 40 for 3. On Thursday, the opening day of the competition the Marooners also had to contend with an abandoned match versus the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the Warner Park so the rain seem to follow them wherever they go.

Chadwick Walton was a masterstroke with a massive 83 runs, while his teammate Vikash Mohan registered 40 runs. Adding to the tally were Rovmen Powell on 36 and Ryan Hinds with 39 runs.  Bowling for the Volcanoes, Mervin Matthews picked up 2 wickets for 41 runs in 8 overs, Delo Johnson got 2 wickets for 47 runs in 8 overs and Kyle Meyers and Shane Shillingford picked up a wicket each. In the Volcanoes innings, Devon Smith scored 26 runs and Fletcher was not out on a run.

The next matches for both teams will be on Monday and especially the Marooners will be hoping for better weather conditions in order to register a first full match and hopefully a win. The Volcanoes already had their first win, scraping past Guyana Jaguars by a run via the Duckworth Lewis method. They next play the Leeward Islands Hurricanes on Monday January 11th at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts at 1:30pm while the Guyana Jaguars play the CCC Marooners in St. Pauls at 9:00am.
