BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE sound of a loud crash at Edward’s Lane, New Pond Site drew the attention of road-users to a traffic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon (Jan. 19) involving a 15-year-old who is said to have been the driver of one of the vehicles.
The incident, according to the Traffic Department, occurred at about 2:20 p.m. and when officers arrived at the scene it was found that motor jeep P2012 had collided with motor bus TA209.
SKNVibes.com understands that the 15-year-old may have taken the vehicle – which belonged to his deceased mother - without permission and went driving. It is also understood that he had travelled to the Basseterre High School premises during the excursion.
This publication was informed that he had picked up a student of the same school somewhere along the trip.
The Traffic Department told SKNVibes that according to the young man’s explanation, after entering Edward’s Lane his cell phone fell and the collision occurred when he bent over to pick it up.
The left side of the taxi – which is owned by Akimba Demming of Edward’s Lane - was damaged and the right side of the jeep was extensively damaged.
Investigations into the incident are taking place.
