BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (January 22, 2016) -- Federation’s most consistent pageant contestant, Ms Alsanarda Hanley, has a new family at the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis following her stunning win of the first National Carnival Miss Swimwear Pageant in the recently concluded Sugar Mas 44.
The 25-year-old native of St. Johnston’s Village in Basseterre who entered, and won, her first pageant at age seven was pleasantly surprised when as an entrant for the first National Carnival Miss Swimwear Pageant had the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis as her sponsor.
“When they did the random selection that is when I got to know that I had been sponsored by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis,” remembers Ms Hanley. “My name was pulled for Development Bank by Ms Vernitha Maynard (the bank’s Marketing Support Officer) during the launch of the Miss Swimwear Pageant contestants.
“I feel victorious, I am glad that I went out and did my best, I worked hard and actually that is what I wanted to do because my aim of going was basically to win and I was able to achieve that.”
Ms Hanley made the remarks recently when she paid a courtesy call at the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis where she was introduced to the staff by Ms Maynard. Among those she met were the bank’s General Manager Mr Lenworth Harris, and Ms Danienne Brin who is the Manager for the Human Resource, Marketing and Product Development Unit.
“I am grateful and appreciative because without the Development Bank my success would not have been possible because there was a lot of funds that were need to get the swimwear, to get myself ready and to help with my team,” commented Ms Hanley. “So I am very appreciative that they sponsored me.”
A Visual Arts teacher at the Washington Archibald High School, Ms Hanley was informed by Mr Harris that if there was anything that they could do for her through her journey, that the bank would be available. He said that he did not know her next step, “but whatever it is you could let us know and we will see how we could facilitate.”
When asked if she knew what the Development Bank does, she quickly answered that they give out loans for houses and farming, and also student loans. Asked if she has a student loan with the bank, she said she did not, and was encouraged to get one.
“But seriously though, you need to think about your own development, your education, I think that is the natural next step,” advised Mr Harris. “If you get too comfortable in teaching field and working for a while you may not move away.”
Ms Danienne Brin, Manager for the Human Resource, Marketing and Product Development Unit congratulated Ms Hanley for winning the first National Carnival Miss Swimwear Pageant and observed that the bank was extremely proud of her for having gone out and achieved what she wanted to achieve.
“This pageant was the first one, and the Development Bank came out with the crown,” said Ms Brin. “We are extremely grateful and we want to welcome you to the Development Bank family, and you should look forward to hearing from us for the year 2016 because we will be calling up on you to assist us with some promotional activities.”
Ms Hanley attended the Dr William Connor Primary School, then the Washington Archibald High School where upon graduation she moved on to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College where she pursued studies in Arts and Design. She worked at the Citizenship by Investment Unit for two years and then transferred to Education Department where she is now a teacher at the Washington Archibald High School.
She says that has she entered at least 12 pageants, the first one which was the Prince and Princess Pageant that was hosted by the late Ms Patsy Allers in 1997 in which she was crowned the Princess. She is proud that her love for pageants has landed her the coveted National Carnival Miss Swimwear Pageant crown.
Some of the pageants include Dr William Connor Primary School Pageant (1st runner up), Miss Labour Pageant representing Constituency Number Three (winner), Washington Archibald High School Talented Teen Show (winner), Jaycees Regional Talented Teen Pageant in Dominica (did not place), Digicel Talented Teen in Anguilla (2nd runner up), Miss Swimwear Nevis Culturama in 2010 (winner), and Miss St. Kitts Nevis Caraibes Hibiscus Model Pageant in 2011 (winner).
“I would like to say a great thank you to my sponsor, the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, my family, and my chaperones Ms Trevicia Adams, Ms Denize Daniel, and Ms Julie Riley,” said Ms Hanley. “Not to be left out are members of my team that included, Mr Calvin Tobias, Mr Hance Richards, Mr Jason Amory, Mr Brian Pedreaux, Mr Trent Sergeant, and Mr Leslie ‘Sugar Bowl’ Morton.”
