Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 22, 2016 (SKNIS): Plans are steadily progressing as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepares to host Diplomatic Week 2016, slated for April 3-8, in St. Kitts and Nevis, said Foreign Affairs Minister the Honourable Mark Brantley, during the Government’s weekly radio and television programme ‘Working for You” on Wednesday, January 20.
Minister Brantley noted that the week is designed to bring diplomats representing the Federation overseas together so that they can meet and interact with other diplomats in St. Kitts and Nevis.
“We have designed this week to bring our people here,” said the foreign affairs minister. “The good thing about it is that it brings us all into the same space.”
He explained that such a gathering allows people, especially those honorary consuls who have never been to the Federation to see and engage with the people here.
“It allows for us to say listen, this is where we are heading, this is the blueprint, this is the roadmap,” he stated. “This is what we are seeking to achieve at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a country.”
The stakeholders then consider what options are available to assist in achieving this mission from their respective countries.
Currently, St. Kitts and Nevis maintains seven (7) embassies and high commissions abroad, as well as 17 consulates and other representations. The St. Kitts capital, Basseterre, hosts four (4) embassies and high commissions, and in addition, there are 20 consulates and other representations in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
