Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 22, 2016 (SKNIS): In a farewell courtesy call paid on him at Government Headquarters on January 20 by His Excellency Ambassador Vladimir Polenov, the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris showered gratitude on the ambassador for his diplomatic service to the nation.
Ambassador Polenov, who visited the Federation for the last time before his scheduled return to Moscow, in expressing gratitude to the twin- island federation for support said, “I wish to discuss at this time projects for cooperation between Russia and St. Kitts and Nevis.”
He explained that the national committee for promoting the economic cooperation between Russia, Latin America and Caribbean countries has grown very fast, and indicated further that his colleagues in Moscow are very thankful for support from St. Kitts and Nevis in regard to activities in the international field in the way of multilateral relationships.
“I would especially like to mention the support from your side of Russia’s initiative of eradication of fanaticism,” said the ambassador, noting that such support was especially important in the seventieth year since the World War.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, also expressed gratitude to the ambassador saying, “I would want to thank you on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis. For many years you have been serving as the focal point between our two countries and people.”
Prime Minister Harris, commenting on His Excellency Polenov’s personality, said that he has always been warm and cordial and that these traits have allowed for “easy conversation on a wide range of important matters”, adding that he believes that these “matters are important to the advancement of the lives of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Dr Harris said that mutual exchanges have been discussed, noting that there are areas for further collaboration. He further expressed appreciation for Ambassador Polenov’s commitment to the development of St. Kitts and Nevis and wished the ambassador the best in future endeavours as he returns to Moscow.
