Maf

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Nevis Island Administration (NIA) on Tuesday (Apr. 26) signed the geothermal contract with developers West Indies Power Nevis Ltd. (WIP) and the Nevis Electricity Company Ltd. signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the same company. Weekend Vibes took to the streets of Nevis to find out what people think of geothermal energy coming to the island.

Maf - Geothermal energy will benefit the island of Nevis tremendously. The cost of doing business will be cheaper, enabling business to employ more people. House holders will be able to save more money creating a higher standard of living for their respective families. The impact on the treasury will be positive.

Lion - It is the best thing happen to Nevis after Four Seasons’ closure and it will be the best thing ever to happen to Nevis after such an economic crisis. More money saved and the benefit will be higher.

Brian - It would take some time for the benefits of geothermal to trickle to the common ordinary folks. But it would be a plus for everybody, for the more money one saves would be better for one’s family.

Royston Elliot - I think it would benefit Nevis people because it is cheaper energy; much cheaper than the use of gas and it would be more beneficial to Nevis because we will be exporting to other islands. I am a craftsman and I use electricity to do my stuff.

Huggins - It would create energy independence for Nevis. It will provide an opportunity for training for interested young Nevisians. It would attract investors to Nevis who are interested in exploiting cheaper energy in Nevis. It will reduce the cost of living for Nevisians and would reduce the cost of electricity between 10-30 percent.
