BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (SKNLPCU) – Leader of the Opposition the Rt Hon. Dr Denzil L. Douglas has accused Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr Timothy Harris of dismantling the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
Appearing with his opposition colleagues on the popular “Issues” programme on Wednesday, Dr Douglas told listeners to Freedom FM 106.5 that when the then Commissioner of Police, Dr. C G. Walwyn was forced out of office shortly after the new government headed by Dr Harris took office in February 2015, there were a Deputy Commissioner of Police and two Assistant Commissioners.
Responding to a comment from a caller who stated that there is a general instability and uncertainty in the country with regard to fighting crime, Dr Douglas said this was due to the non-existent of the leadership of the Police Force.
“An (Assistant Commissioner) was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, the (Acting) Commissioner was sent on long-term pre-retirement and so only one is left. Timothy Harris has destroyed the leadership of the Police Force,” said Dr. Douglas.
