Fifteen years for wounding with intent

Ketron Springette leaves the High Court after sentencing

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A Stoney Grove man will spend the next 15 years in prison after being convicted in the Nevis High Court for wounding with intent.

Ketron Springette was sentenced by Her Lordship Justice Ianthea Leigertwood-Octave last Thursday (Apr. 30) after he was found guilty of shooting Hesketh Wade at his place on business in Bath Village on July 11, 2008.

The court heard that on the night in question, shortly after 8:00 p.m., two armed masked men entered Black Hat’s Place, a Bath Village restaurant, and demanded money. Wade, the owner of the restaurant, refused to comply and was shot multiple times before the men fled the scene empty handed.

Wade was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries.

Police investigations led to the arrest and charge of Springette, who was self-represented in court. He chose not to take the stand but produced a witness to testify of his whereabouts on the night. He told the court that the police forged a statement which he knew nothing about.

“I can spell my name back and front. K.S. does not mean Ketron Springette. It can mean King Selassie. They are falsifying documents on me,” Springette told the court.

The jury however did not see it that way and, after deliberations, returned a guilty verdict.
