Director of Agriculture Mr Sam Powell welcomes agriculturists to Nevis at the Charlestown Pier.
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (October 6, 2005) --
The Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis was host to over 100 delegates of the Fifth Caribbean Week of Agriculture in St. Kitts when they visited the island on Wednesday. The group was welcomed by Mr. Sam Powell Director of Agriculture on Nevis at the Ferry Terminal in Charlestown before they were taken on a tour.
While on the island the group visited the Four Seasons Resort, the Nevis Craft House, the Botanical Gardens, Heritage Village and Mansa's farm at Cades Bay.

Mr Denzil Phillips, Advisor on Herbal Products at the Centre for Development Enterprise in Brussels thanked Mr Powell for the warm welcome on behalf of the group and that they were looking forward to learning more about Nevis and what potential there was for agro tourism. His organisation was one of the sponsors of the agro tourism meeting that was held on St. Kitts earlier this week.

Meantime Mr Trenton Durant of Guyana the Vice President of Caribbean Agricultural Forum for Youth CAFY who was part of the visiting group took the opportunity to call on agriculture officials in Nevis and St. Kitts to work closely with their local chapters of CAFY.
    Mr Denzil Phillips
I would like to urge and make an appeal to the St. Kitts and Nevis Department of Agriculture to work closely with the local chapter of CAFY. We have a chapter set up in Nevis and as well in St. Kitts and I am appealing to please grant your support to CAFY because without the youths we would not be able to move the new agriculture that we are talking about forward, he said.

The delegation was at the time attending the Fifth Caribbean Week of Agriculture in St. Kitts which was hosted by the Department of Agriculture in St. Kitts in collaboration with the Inter American Institute for Cooperation, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, the Centre for Development Enterprise, the Food and Agriculture Organisation and Caricom.
    Mr Trenton Durant
