Charged with larceny and receiving is Constable Clayton Malgoire of the Gingerland Police Station.
According to information reaching SKNVibes, a fisherman reported that sometime between Tuesday (Feb. 2) and Saturday (Feb. 6) his 25 horsepower Yamaha engine and a gill-net were stolen from a storage shed that he use in the Sand Crab Hole area.
Investigations revealed that the outboard engine was at a certain mechanic shop and the mechanic reportedly told the police that it was taken there by Constable Malgoire.
The Constable was subsequently arrested, charged and placed on bail.
According to a police report, he was suspended from duties pending the outcome of the matter.
Malgoire, who has been a member of the Police Force for over 10 years, is said to own a boat with which he goes fishing when not on duty.
When contacted this morning for a comment on the incident, Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley categorically stated that he would not condone acts of dishonesty and corruption perpetrated by any member in the Force.
“It was only Thursday (Feb. 25) that I went to Nevis and held discussions with the officer of that Division. I told them that I will not condone any dishonest act or corruption under my watch. and that any officer found in contravention of the Force Standing Orders will be dealt with condignly.
“I also made it clear that every officer is responsible for his or her actions and everyone in the Police Force is mandated to serve and protect and not to be involved in any criminal activity.”
Queeley pointed to the fact that the Force is currently involved in executing its multiple facet crime fighting initiative, including Community Engagement, and all officers are expected to work conscientiously and assiduously to restore the public’s confidence in the police and not to create mistrust.
