BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A male Mc Knight resident is currently warded at the Joseph N France General Hospital after being stabbed by a man whom he rebuked for smoking cannabis sativa (marijuana or ganja) in the presence of little children.
Romeo Smithen of Central Street and Malone Avenue, Mc Knight was stabbed in the left side of his abdomen while on his way home last week Friday afternoon (May 1).
“Friday afternoon about minutes to four when I was going home, I saw two guys were smoking close to where I live. I stopped and told them they should not be smoking because they got to remember that there are a lot of little kids out there and they were not setting good examples.
“One of the guys said that I talk too much, and I tell him, ‘No, when people telling you the right that is what you would say.’ So he said to me, ‘The devil just tell me that I must give you a stab.’ But I didn’t really take it seriously; I didn’t really study him…and as I was turning off he stabbed me from behind,” Smithen told SKNVibes.
Smithen said after realising that he was stabbed, he turned to the guy and said, “Boy [name given] you stab me you know”! He continued, “And when I do look I see he was still coming after me. So I had to rush in the gate, pull for two bottles, run back out after him and I run him all the way to the Bay where the steps them be. From there, I realise I couldn’t catch him…I couldn’t go any more and I realise meh belly was coming out from where he stab me.
Smithen said after he discontinued the chase and was trying to prevent his intestines from protruding further, he saw a man passing in a vehicle and he stopped him.
“I told the guy what happen to me and he bring me to the hospital,” he added.
SKNVibes contacted the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, who confirmed that the incident did occur at the time Smithen said.
He told this media house that a man was in police custody, but no charges have been laid against him because investigations are ongoing.
