Police making inroads in three latest homicides

Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – COMMISSIONER OF POLICE Ian Queeley said the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has made progress in its investigations of the Federation’s three most-recent homicides and is optimistic that those cases would be cracked soon.

These incidents took place in March after a month-long lull. The first six homicides for the year took place in January.

Queeley, who appeared and spoke at the Prime Minister’s monthly press conference on Tuesday (Mar. 15), said his organization is not relenting in carrying out its crime prevention responsibilities.

“As part of our mandate in the fight against crime, we the police have continued on a regular basis to implement strategies which I would think are geared at minimizing the criminal activities that are happening in the country. We are not only increasing our visibility, we are increasing our operational activities, and so that goes hand-in-hand with the investigations.”

The last three homicide victims are: Fire Officer Javier Caines of St. Paul’s Village, who was shot in Sandy Point on March 5; 17-year-old Tyrique Duncan of Spooner’s Village, whose bullet riddled, partly decomposed body was discovered on March 10 after he was missing for four days; and Mark ‘Pressy’ Williams of St. Kitts, who was gunned down in Nevis over the past weekend.

The Commissioner informed that some inroads were made regarding these homicides and that the outlook for detection is a hopeful one.

“In particular reference to the last three homicides that you alluded to, it is difficult, as I would say it, for police to be everywhere. But the general public, members within the community, can attest to the fact that in the very recent times the police have been fulfilling their obligations.

“…And in relation to the three last homicides that occurred, the police have been making significant progress in the investigations. Several persons in those investigations are assisting the police with the investigations that we are carrying out and we are hopeful that very shortly we would have some positive outlook in terms of the determination of that crime in the detection area.”
