Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - Children representing private and public schools on St. Kitts are getting set to participate in the Fourth Annual Talent Search, organised by the Rotary Club of Liamuiga.  The participating primary and high schools are divided into three zones: East, West and Central and must compete at a zonal level from which the top performers are selected for the finals.

This year, the first zonal competition takes place at the Sandy Point High School where students in the West Zone will compete in song, dance poetry and music.  Residents of Sandy Point and the other communities in the West Zone from Verchilds to Saddlers are encouraged to support the children at the event which starts at 5:30pm on Tuesday 12th May.

The Central Zone students take to the stage on Wednesday 13th at the Basseterre High School, while those from the East zone will contend for the finals at their competition on Thursday 14th May at the Cayon Primary School.  Both contests start at 5:30pm.

Director of Youth Services in the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, Eustace Warner had very high praises for the teachers who every year commit their personal time to training their schools’ representatives.  He went on to say: “Everyone who wants to support our young people should use this opportunity to encourage them during these competitions and at the finals.  We have seen significant improvement in the quality of the talents each year and are happy that we can provide the platform to showcase our gifted young people to their peers and the general public at large.”

Last year’s winner of the Song Segment received a recording contract from a local recording studio while the other winners received cash prizes and trophies.  The winners’ schools also received school supplies and other gifts.

The finals this year take place at the Sir Cecil Jacob Auditorium on Thursday 21st May at 7:00pm.
