BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE post mortem results of remanded prisoner Joseph Tyson, who reportedly died in the Psychiatric Ward of the JNF General Hospital, disclosed that death was due to “cardiac arrest”.
The disclosure was made this morning (Mar. 31) by Superintendent of Prisons Junie ‘Scrape’ Hodge.
Tyson, who was charged with malicious damage and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison on Wednesday (Mar. 23), had reportedly displayed psychotic behaviour while at the correctional institution and was placed in a cell by himself.
It was also reported that he refused to eat the food offered to him at the facility and was said to be seen eating his own faeces.
Consequently, the Christ Church resident was taken to the hospital on Friday for a medical evaluation and was admitted to the Psychiatric Ward, where he also reportedly refused to eat.
Superintendent Hodge told SKNVibes that he had received a report on Saturday night (Mar. 26) that sometime after 6:00 p.m. when attendants at the hospital went to check on Tyson, they found him unresponsive and he was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
He also said Tyson’s family members were subsequently informed of his death.
