BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EVEN before the announcement of the judges’ decision, it was evident to all patrons that 21-year-old Roslyn Berkley would have been crowned the 2009 Miss Personality and Marvellous (PAM) Queen.

The pageant, which was held last Saturday (May 9) at the People’s Action Movement Headquarters, had seen Berkley being outstanding throughout the night in every segment. She won the awards for Best Speech, Best Talent, Best Evening Wear and Miss Photogenic.

In the Introductory Speech segment, each contestant was allotted a topic that they had to outline and Berkley spoke on the importance of family, while her Talent featured a political drama piece and dance.

In the First Runner-up position was Betanya Seaton who captured the Miss Congeniality award and Best Creative Wear while Grace Percival and Norella Williams were voted Second and Third Runners-up respectively.

The other contestants were Juliana Joseph, Tarisha Wilson and Chelsea Williams. However, according to the organisers, the eighth contestant, Cheroma Browne, dropped out at the last minute.

In the Ring Bang Calypso Competition, I-Soursop took the crown for the second time with a song entitled ‘Too Small’. He has now become the second calypsonian to have two consecutive wins at this event since its inception. He was followed by Big Lice who sang ‘De Country need a change’, Singing Angie with ‘Poverty Gap’ and Forest singing ‘Fresh Face’.

The show was followed by a special performance by the Mighty Chalkdust who hails out of Trinidad. The calypsonian took the stage some time after 1:00 a.m. and sang a number of songs including ‘Just Because’ and one that seem to be a crowd’s favourite, ‘White people laughing at we’.  At the end of his performance, Chalkdust presented one of his CDs to a member of the audience who had never smoked. He also presented one to leader of the People’s Action Movement Lindsay Grant.
