BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN recent times, many people have been voicing their opinions about the type of lyrics young people are exposed to and the type of behaviour some persons display in the clubs on St. Kitts.

In seeking solutions to the problems, many people are of the view that enforcing an age limit at the clubs is one way that could help.

SKNVibes went out to the streets and asked a number of persons this question: “Should there be an age limit to persons attending the club?”

Scotty, an insurance agent, said that there should be an 18 and older age limit and it should be mandate to have a picture ID.

“I don’t want to be anywhere that a lot of children are, and I would not like to be in the club knowing my daughter is in there,” he said.

Mel, a 22-year-old, totally agreed with Scotty and noted that there should be an age limit.

She said if one is under 18, one is not old enough to be in the clubs but in one’s mother’s house, especially with the increase of crime and violence.

“Too many little children coming around and the songs that are playing open their minds to sex and violence and other things, and they get influenced by lyrics. Therefore, I think an age limit would be a good idea, and it should be 20, not even 18, ’cause 18 is still young,” according to a young man name Leon.

Another young lady by the name of Sabrina is of the view that when under-age children go to the club they tend to follow bad company and get drunk, so there should indeed be an age limit.

Val added that there are too many school children in the clubs.

“I feel our kids are exposed too early and this is a serious issue,” she said.

Dexter, a young man in his late 20s, does not feel that there should be an age limit.

“The place is too small and only few people go out. It may work in the States because it is much bigger there.”

Manager of Club Kactus and Kactus Entertainment, Romeo Parris believes that with everything there must be rules and regulations and limits and so should the clubs.

He said when children go to the club they are exposed to a lot of things including alcohol. Therefore, an age limit of at least 18 should be put in place.

A promoter of G’s Promotion said he strongly agrees with the idea of having an age limit of at least 18.

He said whenever he has events, if he sees anyone that looks under-age he does not allow them to enter, and that under-age children should be at home.

“They serve liquor in the clubs and children should not be in any place that serves alcohol,” he said.
